The greatest test of any vehicle in Australian motorsport is to survive an epic Around Australia Trial. With a reputation born out of the famous Redex Trials of the fifties, Holden, Australia’s “own car”, has always featured in the forefront of those classic enduros. Never more so than in the 1979 Repco Trial, when motor racing icon, Peter Brock, led home a trio of factory Commodores for a 1-2-3 result against the world’s best competition. Brock was not so fortunate in the 1995 Mobil 1 Trial, but team mate Ed Ordynski again demonstrated Commodore’s superiority when it counted most. Holden’s back-to-back victories are now part of rally folklore.
See the original 44 minute 1979 film in it’s entirety, supporting an edited version of the 1995 Trial.

This DVD features Round 7 of the World Rally Championship in New Zealand.
With some of the fastest roads in the world, New Zealand is a driver’s event, being highly popular with the crews and the spectators alike.
Run on the North Island of New Zealand, the 1984 event was notable for the intense factory interest, with the Audi Quattro A2 cars of Blomquist, Röhrl and Mikkola dominating so many of the world’s great rallies, and being challenged by the fiercely driven Lancia 037 of Markku Alèn.
The 1984 event was one of the great rally events of all time, with none of the teams giving any quarter, the event was fought down to the wire.
This was the last year of sole domination by Audi, as a new challenger was waiting in the wings - Peugeot, but that was 1985!
The factory cars featured in this video:
Audi Quattro, Lancia 037, Nissan 240RS and Toyota Celica TCT and also featured are drives by ‘Possum’ Bourne, Juha Kankkunen, Björn Waldegård, Franz Wittman and Timo Salonen amongst others.

The Lancia team ran in 1984 with their two wheel drive Type 037 car driven by Marku Alen, but in 1985 their new all-wheel drive Delta Integrale S4, turbo and supercharged 500 plus horsepower challenger was not ready....that would be for 1986..

The AWA-Clarion Rally of New Zealand was a round of the 1986 World Rally Championship for Makes and Drivers .
With some of the fastest roads in the world, New Zealand is a driver’s event, being highly popular with the crews and the spectators alike.
Run on the North Island of New Zealand, the 1986 event was the last time New Zealand would see the monster Group B cars.
With the untimely tragic death of Henri Toivenen and his Co-driver Cresto during the Tour de Corse Rally in May, the FIA decided to ban the Group B category from the end of the 1986 season, so ending the most innovative, but frighteningly spectacular era of Road Rallying and setting the stage for all future events.
The superb Peugeot 205T16 EVO 2 cars were highly competitive on the New Zealand roads and with the non appearance of the factory Audis, their only competiton was the Lancia team with their Integrale S4 turbo and supercharged 500 plus horsepower super cars and with Alen again fighting furiously to the finish.
Cars featured in this video:
Peugeot 205T16 EVO2, Lancia Integrale S4, Nissan 240RS amongst others.
Runtime approx. 56mins : Full commentary.
