Barry Nancarrow Bio

Barry Filming 1983

Barry Nancarrow (circled) filming the
1983 M.G. Car Club Newcastle State Round.

Barry's background is as a cine cameraman with local broadcaster NBN Television in Newcastle NSW.
He had a long and rewarding career within the television
community and is widely known and respected for his work. For many years in the seventies, in association with fellow motorsport enthusiast and TV presenter, Jim Sullivan, they produced a weekly TV show called 'Motorscope', a production that was 'fronted' by Jim Sullivan and filmed by Barry, with very little support from the 'powers that be'.

This show ran for many years, entirely through the efforts of these two men....as, then and to some extent now, Television companies seem to lack an understanding of the sport of Rallying and generally only offer token support with limited coverage....

Barry at the Cross

Barry on location at the infamous Gordonville Ford near Bellingen NSW During the 1974 Southern Cross Rally (now on DVD).

The Newcastle rally community are grateful for the support and publicity that Barry gave to the local motorsport community as the sport was virtually unknown by the general public of the time.

Barry has released for the first time some of his rally film archives, footage that has rarely been seen and is unique and includes some of the rounds of the famous SOUTHERN CROSS RALLY from the mid 70's...
This material is fabulous and of historical importance particularly now as Historic category rallying is making a highly popular comeback.

Barry is a person that enjoys a challenge and is fully committed to the highest levels of professionalism as was shown in the late seventies with the awarding to Barry of a LOGIE Award for the infamous 'Star Hotel Riot' in Newcastle.
